Late MBC Weathercaster Oh Yoanna’s Attendance Report Leaked: Questions Raised About Timing
On February 22, a document titled “The Late Oh Yoanna’s Broadcast Accidents and Tardiness Report” was posted on the DC Inside Weathercaster Gallery. The document, which records approximately one year of data from January 26, 2022 to January 12, 2023, contains details about Oh Yoanna’s broadcast accidents and incidents of tardiness.
According to the attendance report, Oh Yoanna was late or absent without notice six times for “News Today” and “12 News”, and missed “The Morning That Opens the World” radio show three times. All cases were reportedly due to being unreachable, and senior casters Lee Hyun-seung and Park Ha-myung had to step in urgently twice each.
Public reactions to the leaked report have been mixed. While some criticize her work ethic, the majority of netizens emphasize the need to consider the sequence of events. They point out that the document’s creation coincides with the period when Oh Yoanna was allegedly subjected to workplace harassment.
Additionally, some are questioning how the report was leaked rather than focusing on assigning blame. Notably, they highlight the use of the term “the late Oh Yoanna” within the document, raising suspicions that it may have been hastily written and leaked after her passing.
Oh Yoanna, who joined MBC as a publicly recruited weathercaster in 2021, passed away in September last year. While the cause of death was initially undisclosed, it became known on January 27 when a media outlet revealed her suicide note. The 17-page letter detailed that she had suffered workplace harassment from some of her fellow weathercasters. Following mounting allegations and evidence, MBC launched a fact-finding committee to investigate the case.
